Microphlebectomy
Microphlebectomy is a minimally invasive treatment used to remove even the largest bulging varicose veins. The procedure takes place in our comfortable office setting and involves making tiny punctures along the path of the vein. Using a special instrument, the varicose veins are gently removed through these miniscule openings. The poke holes are so small that only a local anesthetic is needed and no stitches are required. The patient is able to resume normal activities quickly, and discomfort following the treatment is rare.
Is microphlebectomy the same as vein stripping surgery?
Absolutely not! First of all, vein stripping is performed under general anesthesia in the hospital, whereas microphlebectomy is done in the office, with only a local anesthetic. Unlike traditional surgery, microphlebectomy removes the problem veins through tiny poke holes rather than large incisions. As such, there is little risk of infection, blood loss or scarring. There is no IV, no hospital stay and patients are able to drive and walk immediately after their procedure.
In short, microphlebectomy is a modern alternative to vein stripping, and can leave an excellent cosmetic result without the downtime or discomfort of invasive hospital surgery.
